Campus performing ensembles are offered for credit and are open to all students with suitable prior experience. Ensembles include the West Shore Chorale, which performs a winter and spring concert open to the public and performs in conjunction with other groups both on and off campus, and the Jazz Ensemble, which offers big band instrumental experience with community musicians. The NEW Concert Band, also in collaboration with community musicians, is offered at Coleman High School for UW-Marinette students. Opportunities for solo performances are available to students in connection with ensemble concerts and in other local venues.
In addition to performance ensembles, non-major music students can choose from a comprehensive selection of classroom coursework in Music, including Music Appreciation, Jazz History, The History of Rock and Roll, and others. Online course options are also available.
For students planning for a future in professional music, UW-Marinette offers a full complement of courses for the first two years of a music major, as well as participation in the Guaranteed Transfer program within the UW System following completion of the associate degree. Major course offerings include first- and second-year Music Theory, Aural Skills, Applied Lessons (instrument or voice), Applied Piano and Ensemble Performance.
