Continuing Education Offers "A Little Bit of Everything!"

By UW-Marinette

What have you been up to this summer? If you ask Jamie Schwaba or Rena Schwartz of UW-Marinette’s Continuing Education Department, the answer will be “a little bit of everything!”

For the first time, UW-Marinette’s College 4 Kids program offered a Show Stoppers Theatre Camp in partnership with the Marinette School District on-site at Marinette Middle School. For five weeks, 28 local students were given the opportunity to hone in on their theatrical abilities and learn new stage skills such as vocal projection, articulation, and how to memorize lines, in addition to life skills such as teamwork and confidence.

On July 16, a group of 62 Girl Scouts and camp staff from the Polish Scouting Organization of the Chicago Area were treated to “A Day in the Spotlight,” featuring theatrical experiences. The scouts participated in improv, musical theatre and mask making workshops, got a behind-the-scenes tour of the dressing rooms, stage and scene shop area of the Herbert L. Williams Theatre and were entertained by the local River Cities Readers Theatre troupe and members of UW-Marinette’s Theatre on The Bay cast of Cabaret.

If you have recently visited the UW-Marinette campus, you probably saw many young children taking part in the College 4 Kid’s Art Camp. Nearly 40 local kids participated in this weeklong camp which explored a variety of art mediums and techniques and was taught by four local artists and teachers.

Speaking of art, local art lovers get to realize a dream come true as they explore the Milwaukee Art Museum without the headache of driving and parking in Milwaukee. Participants will ride a tour bus from UW-Marinette to the world famous museum to take in the Kandinsky exhibit on August 2. To reserve your spot, contact Continuing Education at 715-735-4300, ext. 4342 today.

On August 11-15, 40 more youngsters will again invade campus for a week of science fun.  College 4 Kids Science Camp will include LEGO challenges, Nature exploration and Rocketry. There is still time to sign up for this fun, interactive weeklong experience! Don’t miss it!
