Sitting alone in a café, Jean is bothered by the insistent ringing of a stranger’s cell phone. When he doesn’t answer it, she realizes he is dead. Compelled to answer the ringing phone, Jean becomes drawn into Gordon’s world and embarks on a journey in which she meets his mother, wife, mistress, brother, and, in a fantastical and comical turn of events, Gordon himself. Soon Jean finds herself falling in love with Gordon’s brother Dwight and even participating in some of Gordon’s unsavory and illegal business dealings. Will Jean be able to extricate herself from her growing fascination with a dead man in order to begin a real relationship with Dwight? Or will her curiosity trap her in Gordon’s dangerous world?
The answers to these compelling questions will be revealed during Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a comedy by Sarah Ruhl, which opens April 8 at UW-Marinette.
